How Subscriptions Work
How It Works
Define Subscription Plan Details
Plans are the backbone of subscriptions - they define how a subscription will work. Set up a plan name, description of the plan, frequency of billing, duration of plan, pricing, and how you’d like to settle proceeds from each subscription purchase.
Customer Adds Payment Details
First time customers can add a credit card or bank account, which can then be saved for future reuse.
Start Billing
Once subscribers sign up, Coinflow will automatically charge them according to the frequency set.
Defining Plan Details
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | The short description of the plan |
| Code | Yes | The unique identifier of the plan (no spaces) |
| Description | No | An explanation of the details of the plan |
| Interval | Yes | The frequency of billing (Monthly / Yearly) |
| Duration | No | The number of intervals the subscription will run until expiration. For example, if the frequency is monthly and the duration is 12, the subscription will expire after a year |
| Amount | Yes | The base amount to be billed every interval |
| Transaction | No | Optional advanced field. See the advanced settlement guide for details. |
Managing Subscription Plans and Subscribers
Once a plan is created, you can see the subscribers, edit the details, and deactivate it.
Viewing Plan Details and Subscribers
When you click on one of the plans, you can view all of the subscribers subscribed for that plan, all payments made for the subscription, and can manually cancel the subscription on behalf of the subscriber.
Subscription Statuses
Each subscriber will have a status associated with their subscription state as described below:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Active | The subscription is in good standing |
| Canceled | The subscription was canceled by the merchant or customer |
| Expired | The underlying plan is not longer available |
| Concluded | The duration of the plan has reached the end |
| Failed | A recurring payment failed (suspending the subscription) |
| Blocked | The customer has been blocked in our ecosystem (suspending the subscription) |
